SENIOR DESIGNER

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a highly talented and motivated Senior Designer to join one of the most successful Children's Publisher in the UK. As a member of the fiction team you will have an opportunity to work on a wide variety of fiction titles, both young and teen, and your key responsibility will be to ensure that the whole process, from commissioning to production, runs smoothly. This will involve commissioning and overseeing illustrators and freelance designers as well as liaising with internal departments such as editorial, sales and marketing, to guide projects and schedules through to successful completion on time and to budget.

Working autonomously, and managing a team of two fiction Designers, the candidate will require the ability to manage their own creative and innovative products with flair and confidence. Ideally you will have had gained design experience in a children’s publishing environment.

With a passion for children’s books you will need sufficient design experience to hit the ground running and must be highly organised, with the ability to manage projects under pressure. A high standard of software literacy is required, including Quark Xpress, Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign.

This is a fabulous position for an experienced designer, who has an excellent understanding of design trends in children’s fiction book publishing.

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Editor to cover a maternity leave for one of the most prestigious Children's Publishers. The successful applicant will have a particular knowledge of the picture book process and a genuine passion for children’s books for all ages.

Responsibilities will include:

Managing the internal editorial process for all picture books, fiction and Library titles ie compiling copy, collating proofs, writing Title Information Sheets and editorial notes, providing feedback on cover design and inside illustrations, proofreading and copy-editing, liaising with authors, agents and internal departments, as well as dealing with correspondence, enquiries, costings, contracts, and publication schedules.

The role

Duties will include supporting the Sales Director with various administrative tasks as well as researching leads, promoting and selling key titles to new and existing accounts. Working closely with the Marketing department to support authors at workshops and conferences.

The ideal candidate will have experience of working as a bookseller or within the publishing industry.
